Theodora Papathanasiou has graduated (BSc) from the Department of “Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art” of the Technological Institute of Athens (1992) and has obtained a Master’s degree (M.A) in “Educational Leadership and Policy” (2012) from the Open University of Cyprus. In 2018, she completed her postgraduate studies in “Cultural Organisations Management (MSc)” in Social Sciences department of the Hellenic Open University.
Moreover, she has been awarded a certificate of specialization, by the Department of the School of Pedagogical and Technological Education (ASPETE), in 1-Year Programme of Specialization in Counselling and Guidance (PESYP).
She worked as a Scientific Associate teaching the undergraduate courses of the archeological artifacts in the Department of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art of the Technological Institute of Athens (TEI) for three years. From 1995 to 2001 she worked as a conservator of archaeological findings and monuments at the Ministry of Culture, as a graduate of technological education in Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art. Following, she was placed as a secondary education teacher in the field of Applied Arts (UE 89.01).
She has teaching experience in secondary/ postsecondary and higher education in the field of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art for more than 20 years.
She is currently attached to the Institute of Educational Policy (IEP) in the Staff of Scientific Department at the Technological and Vocational Unit on a four year secondment, focusing on the projects financed and implemented within the framework of the Operational Programmes of NSRF 2013-2020. She suggests issues related to education at the Vocational High School (EPAL) and the Post-Secondary Apprenticeship Class in the field of Applied Arts.
Publications & Projects
Her research interests refer to Applied Educational Research, in Programme and Personnel Evaluation in Education, as well as the Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art.
She is the author of a number of units of the Educational Institute’s book “Conservation of Works of Art” (ISBN 978-960-06-3185-2), which is part of the 2nd and 3rd class of the Vocational High School (EPAL) in the realm of Secondary Education and has taken part in conferences and scientific workshops.
She has participated as a specialized assessor, in the evaluation of the teaching material in Arts of the second and third grade of junior high school, for the module “Aesthetic Education-Visual Works”, as part of the implementation of the project “Assessment of the educational material in compulsory education”, of the Act “The Innovative School (the school of the 21st century) – The New curriculum” of the Institution of Educational Policy (IEP).
She has participated in the assignments of the Registry of Vocational Education of the Institution of Educational Policy (IEP), that included the creation of the schedules and the curriculums of the Technological and Vocational Education on “Conservation of Works of Art and Restoration” of Vocational High School. The submission of supplementary material for the subject “Zone of creative activities” and “Research Project in Technology” of the 1st class of EPAL.
Other Activities/ Interests
She is part of the International Department of the Institution of the Conservation of Historical and Artistic Works (IIC) and of the International Board of Museums (ICOM). She is also a member of the Teachers’ Union of Applied Arts.She worked as scientific collaborator in the implementation of the research programs “LIFE” and “EPET II” in collaboration with the Department of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art of the Technological Institute of Athens. She also ran the European program “COMENIUS/ 2008-2010” and “LEONARDO DA VINCI/ 2013” focusing on the education/training of the students of Applied Arts.
