Humanities and Social Studies Unit
The Scientific Unit of Humanities and Social Sciences belongs to the Scientific Units of Section B- Curricula & Teaching Material of the Scientific Department (law 3966/2011, article 13, as amended in law 4547/12-6-2018, article 61 and in accordance with the 43/03-09-2020 IEP Board Decision).
The Scientific Unit of Humanities and Social Sciences delivers advisory opinions and recommends to the IEP Governing Board on matters relating to:
a. language education (teaching Greek, Ancient and Modern Greek Language and Literature in the Secondary Education, as well as the transition from Secondary to Higher Education,
b. the subjects of Philosophy and Latin in Senior High School (Lyceum)
c. the Social Sciences subjects such as History, Political Science (Economics, Political Institutions, Principles of Law and Sociology), Sociology (for the school year 2020-2021), Economics, Home Economics, Social and Political Education, Religion and Physical Education.
In particular, regarding the aforementioned, the Scientific Unit of Humanities and Social Sciences:
- makes recommendations on matters regarding the formulation, ongoing modernization and optimum application of educational policy by placing emphasis on timetables, curricula, course syllabuses, textbooks and other educational material
- delivers opinions on the implementation of surveys, educational programs, competitions in secondary education schools, of the one part, and on parliamentary questions, on the other part.
- conducts research, compiles studies and participates in research projects
- organizes workshops, conferences and educational activities following the IEP Board recommendation and agreement. Furthermore, the Unit collaborates and cooperates with groups of teachers and educational institutions in Greece and abroad within the framework of IEP operation.
