Unit of Natural Sciences, Technology, Mathematics and the Arts (STEM/STEAM)
The Scientific Unit of Natural Sciences, Technology, Mathematics and the Arts includes the fields of Natural Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geology and Geography), Information Technology, Information and Communication Technologies, Technology, Mathematics and the Arts (Music, Visual Arts, and Theatre). This unit supports the aims and objectives of IEP.
In particular, the unit offers advice or consultation on:
(a) all matters relating to its fields of study for Primary and Secondary Education as well as the transition from Secondary to Higher Education with emphasis on curriculum development and revision, syllabuses, textbooks, teaching materials and tools along with educational research, educational programs and parliamentary scrutiny.
(b) issues within its field of competence related to the ongoing reform and the optimum implementation of educational policy.
The Unit also implements supportive actions, collaborates with other Units and Departments of the Scientific Section, the Administrative Section and the IEP Independent Departments on issues wherein there is horizontal communication among the STEM/STEAM Unit and other competent Scientific Units or Departments. Moreover, it participates in committees and working groups that are created for a defined period of time.
Finally, it takes the initiative in conducting research, organizing seminars, workshops, conferences etc. in concert with the IEP Board and in constant collaboration with the rest of the Scientific Units and Departments, the Administrative Section and Departments. The unit also organizes seminars, workshops, conferences and collaborates with other organizations as well, in alignment with IEP legal policy.
